Graduate studies in the Jackman Lab
There is currently room in my lab for interested Master's thesis students (MS degree).

See the page of my graduate students

Graduate work in my lab:

My interests cover a variety of organisms and topics ( see research ), so graduate student thesis work (for the MS degree) in my lab can cover a wide variety of topics. Although I am flexible, I expect students to work on some question about the evolution, population genetics or conservation of amphibians and reptiles (or other groups of organisms if you have the expertise or motivation to study them). This could include anything from phylogenetic relationships of a group of species to population studies within a species or between closely related species.

Expectations for thesis research:
Your thesis research can be as independent as you would like it to be. For example, I can give you a choice of 3 or 4 projects and you could add your own ideas to any of those projects. If you prefer and you are motivated you could suggest your own project, preferrably related to some of the ongoing research in the lab. For example, one of my students completed a thesis on behavior in salamanders, even though I do not conduct behavioral research myself.

Funding (See The Graduate Program website for details):

New graduate students are eligible for teaching assistantships. These provide a tuition waiver as well as a nine month stipend. Teaching assistantships are available on a comptetive basis and although there is no deadline for admission into the graduate program, March 1 is the deadline for full consideration for a teaching asstantship in the Fall semester.

Once graduate students have been accepted, MS students are also eligible for research fellowships as well as summer teaching and research support. Please the the Graduate Program link above for complete details.

What to do if you want to apply:

First: Send me an email ( todd.jackman@villanova.edu ) - tell me what you are interested in, what you've done in the past, and feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Second: Check out the forms information from the The Biology Graduate Program website

If you need assistance with anything to do with your application, or need more information about the Graduate program, email gradbio@villanova.edu or call the biology office at 610-519-4500 or contact myself or Anil Bamezai, the current chair of the Graduate Committee.
