Professor
Traver teaches courses in surface water hydrology, open channel
hydraulics, and urban storm water management.
Dr. Traver's introduction to engineering practice was during the initial
period of implementation of stormwater management in Pennsylvania. He
incorporates this experience in his continuing research and consulting.
While at Villanova Dr. Traver has conducted research on topics that
include modeling of stream hydraulics, urban hydrology, water quality,
and measures to mitigate stormwater effects of urbanization. Most
recently he has been the main force in creating a Stormwater Best
Management Practice Demonstration and Research Park on the Villanova
Campus. Research is underway on a Stormwater Wetland, and four
infiltration BMP’s. To enable continuing study into advancing research
in these areas, Dr. Traver founded the Villanova Urban Stormwater
Partnership, and serves as its director.
Recognizing the link between policy and engineering, Dr. Traver
continues to be involved with the implementation of stormwater policy.
He has participated with a team study (sponsored by PaDER) to review the
effects of Pennsylvania’s water regulation from a watershed
sustainability viewpoint, and has served as Chair for the 1998 through
2005 Pennsylvania Stormwater Management Symposium’s held at Villanova.
He frequently speaks to gatherings that include both engineers and
municipal officials. As of August 2003 he has been appointed by the
Commonwealth to the oversight committee for Pennsylvania’s “new” BMP
manual, and was appointed in October 2005 to the
ASCE External
Review Panel on Hurricane Katrina. |

Villanova University College of Engineering Announces Online Master’s
Degree
Villanova University College of Engineering announces the addition of an
Online Master’s Degree to it’s evening
Civil and Environmental Engineering Graduate program. Now you can earn
either your Masters of Civil Engineering or your Masters of Science in
Water Resources and Environmental Engineering through the
water resources and environmental engineering
program online or on campus.
Starting Fall 2003, you will be able to attend classes live via the
internet and fully participate in graduate classes without coming to
campus. The robust distance learning technology, developed by the
College of Engineering, also allows 24-hour access to all the notes and
lectures for the course. To fit your schedule – evenings on-campus,
on-line with a live class, or make up a missed class with an archived
lecture.
Because Villanova University is committed to offering an accessible
distance learning program, there is NO EXTRA COST involved. All
distance learning classes cost the same as regular in-class credits.
Students must meet the same eligibility requirements as anyone entering
into the program. For more information, please contact the Department
of Civil and Environmental Engineering at 610-519-4960. Or send email
to
civil@villanova.edu. We can also be found on the web at
