7) Expedia vs.
Travelocity
Overall, Expedia and Travelocity
are very similar websites. Each
site is designed with
the same general color schemes; very light and relaxed.
Besides the look and colors, the
layouts are also very alike.
They each have a row of tabs across the top of the page to
allow for easy
navigation through the various divisions of their sites. The tabs contain all
the same industry options too. The
only added industry of Travelocity is the railway
systems in both Canada and
Europe. Expedia does not allow
searches of railways at all.
Not many advertisements clutter either of the
sites. And with the search fields
right there
for you on the homepage, the search process could not be easier. The
similarities that
exist beyond the homepage, not including the same look and
layout, are that each gives
you the opportunity to easily modify your search
criteria without having the go back to
the original search field.
The main feature that stands out for both, though, is how they
allow for
you to store your personal preferences for multiple visits to the site.
Beyond the homepage, each has their own minor positives and
negatives. The
strengths of Expedia
that Travelocity lacks are the ability to sort your results into various
orders
(i.e. departure time, lowest fares, etc.), the quick and easy comparison of
different travel options among your results, and a calendar feature that helps
when
choosing dates for search. Also, when you finally go to reserve something, Expedia
summarizes both the itinerary and prices that comes in handy.
At the same time,
Travelocity has strengths that Expedia lacks.
When search results are displayed,
Travelocity shows both departure and
return information all at the same time, where
Expedia makes you select a
departure then match a return on a subsequent page.
The
biggest strength though is the hold/save feature that Travelocity
offers. This can be very
helpful
when you do not have time right at the moment to make a decision. It allows you
the opportunity to review your options.
I
must say that I would use Expedia before Travelocity just for some basic
advantages it possesses. However, I
would not hesitate to use Travelocity in
circumstances where Expedia was not
available, i.e. server down. They
both are very
simple and easy sights to navigate and do their job with
precision.

The

The two
devices featured in his December 21, 2000 column were the Philips
Expanium and
the Pine D'music SM-200C, both CD/MP3 players. The problem of
the Pine
D'music is that it causes skips in MP3-CDs and, in some cases, it plays
five or
10 seconds of static before starting a song. The main problem with the
Philips Expanium is that it does not display any song information, making
navigation through over 100 song very tough. [to find article: When
